About Commercial EPCs in London
Energy Performance Certificates were introduced in England and Wales in 2007 and are a legal requirement for any non public building.
Almost all commercial buildings in the UK require an (EPC) Energy Performance Certificate when it is constructed, let or Sold.
The EPC is graded at A – G (High – Low) via a graph format for ease of understanding. The EPCs are lodged on the Government Landmark database for a period of 10 years.
When is a Commercial EPC Required in London?
As soon as a building is in the process of being offered for sale or rent, it is the responsibility of the relevant person (Landlord or Agent) to make available free of charge a Commercial EPC to any prospective tenant or buyer at the earliest opportunity. Before a building is put on the market the landlord or seller must commission an EPC for the property.

Are there any exemptions to having a Commercial EPC in London?
There are certain exemptions to Energy Performance Certificates places of worshiptemporary buildings that will be used for less than 2 years stand-alone buildings with total useful floor space of less than 50 square metres industrial sites, workshops and non-residential agricultural buildings that don’t use a lot of energy and are unoccupied. i.e. Gritting Salt Stores some buildings that are due to be demolished holiday accommodation that’s rented out for less than 4 months a year or is let under a licence to occupy.
